Next, I create the elastics that will tighten the cuffs. I sew a gathering thread (with the maximum stitch length) to match the volume of the fabric to that of the maximum-stretched elastic. I also put markings on the elastic and sleeve to ensure that the volume of material is evenly distributed.
Then I sew them to the sleeve, pulling to retain as much elasticity as possible. I fold the end of the sleeve over and sew it to the elastic, too, to give the effect of volume.
