Once the design is ready, I save it in TIFF format. This format is used in printing because it avoids loss of quality while integrating the transparent areas into the image.
To upcycle my shirt, I chose to remove the sleeves and replace them with transparent printed sleeves on organza. The result is an interesting contrast of materials.
At Printcubator, we offer Orello: a transparent, shiny organza. It’s suitable for occasion wear (cocktail dresses or bridesmaids’ dresses), or for decorative items. It’s made from 70% recycled polyester.
Back to printing. When printing by sublimation, the file is first printed on a special paper using heat-sensitive inks. The image is transferred from the paper to one side of the fabric using heat and pressure: it is heated to 205°C for 25 seconds. Under this effect, the ink passes directly from a solid to a gaseous state, a process known as sublimation.
